Wise Goddess Athena
Main Characters: The main character is the goddess Athena herself as well as her father Zeus, Ares (the god of war) and Poseidon (god of the sea)
Main Plot: There was not a main plot in this myth. It basically gives a very brief explanation on her birth, battles with Ares, and competition with Poesiden.
Athena, Zeus’s favorite child, was born from Zeus’ head when his brother slit his head open. Zeus’s had been experiencing a major headache. It is said that the headache was caused by remorse on an infidelity he had had with a mortal.
Ares and Athena had many battles and they were all won by Athena. Being the goddess of strategy and wisdom, she always won.
Poseidon and Athena competed as well. However, they argued on who should rule the most powerful city in the world while the other gods/goddesses were the judges. Both gods, performed a miracle on top of Acropolis, the new city. Poseidon, being the god of the sea, made salt water spring from the depths of the mountain while the goddess Athena grew a tall olive tree that prospered with fruit. With her incredibly useful gift to humanity, Athena won the battle. The city was named Athens after the powerful yet graceful goddess Athena.
Athena was also known to gift the people on earth. She gifted the humans on Earth with items such as the flute and trumpet for our pleasure, the earthenware for our convenience, and taught all women arts, especially weaving.
During the Trojan war, many gods took sides. Athena took the Greeks side even long after they had won the war. She also helped Odysseus during his ten year journey home. She offered him advice and assistance when he most needed it. Others among her favorites are Heracles, Perseus, and Jason.
I believe it’s safe to say Athena is the most unique among the Olympians. Athena defines heroism, courage, and standing for what is right. She can serve as a great role model for all women. Being the goddess of war that preferred peace, the judge who believed in mercy, and the master of knowledge/ wisdom certainly left her mark in Greek mythology.
